Plantar Fasciiti foot stretching

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis….the words strike fear into the heart of anyone who has suffered from this painful condition. Rolling frozen water bottles over the soles of feet, changing shoes, buying orthotics, even (eek) steroid injections into the foot are all unreliable treatments. That’s because the plantar fascia ISN’T the problem it’s just the symptom.

TEST SUB TITLE

The plantar fascia (a thin sheet of tough tissue) is an extension of the Achilles’ tendon and the fascia that surrounds and is between the gastrocnemius and soleus (calf muscles). When these two muscles don’t slide freely over one another due to injury or misuse, the encasing fascia gets “sticky” like sheets of Velcro sticking together. These tight sticky sheets then pull on the plantar fascia causing irritation, inflammation at bony attachments and PAIN.

If you’re suffering with this pain, go north of the poor foot. Massage, foam rolling can alleviate minor issues and a combination of non-drug based therapy including sports medicine acupuncture can resolve more advanced cases (usually in 1-3 treatments) and prevent future occurrence.

TEST SUB TITLE

Moral of the story is symptoms do not equal diagnosis. Look beyond the symptom to the underlying cause for the best outcomes.

Have a great weekend everyone.
